Movin' On Up!!

I finally have a "real" job!! And it's in Ann Arbor!!! I am a Field Manager for the Fund for Public Interest Research Canvass Staff. I'm up here in AA right now starting work and crashing at Amanda and Michael's place. I'm looking for a place to live hopefully in AA. I'm not exactly sure when I'll be heading back to OH, hopefully sometime next week if I can get everything worked out. I'll post more about the job later, but I'm exhausted and must work on finding a place to live.

Sunday Comics

The Sunday Comics provided by the Dayton Daily News always has a section where the characters "Beakman and Jax" answer a science question asked by some kid and also provide a science experiment to illustrate the answer. This past Sunday the question posed by Natthaphol Boom from Bangkok, Thailand was "Where does gravity come from? What is the short answer?" They of course explained that gravity is the attraction between any 2 objects and that scientists are working on solving where gravity comes from. They go on by saying (and this is the kicker), "This week do a gravity experiment first done by Galileo in 1620. Galileo was a little like the singer Madonna. Both make do with just a first name and both seem to upset people with the stuff they think."

WTF?!?! What a horrible comparison! I have nothing against the material girl, I enjoy her music (preferably the old stuff), but surely these people could of thought of a more appropriate comparison for one the most famous scientist in history.

Blah....

I am sick yet again...but this time I have a cold instead of a sinus infection; at least I think so. I ended up going home early from work on Thursday but made it through work today just because I didn't want to deal with my Dad bitching at me for being sick. So needless to say I don't have much going on this weekend. I hope everybody is having a better weekend than I am!

BG/ Cleveland/ Ann Arbor

So I had a nice little vacation recently...

Last Friday I headed up to BG. It was great to just hang out and relax with Jared. We didn't do much which was totally fine with me. We ordered pizza and watched some TV with his roommate Chris and eventually headed out to Downtown to meet up with my friend Bridget. The bar was surprisingly pretty busy considering it was Fall Break weekend.

Saturday I headed to Cleveland for a wedding. My boss Mary from the chemistry stockroom was getting married and it was a great time. I was working at the stockroom when her and her now husband, Chris, first met and started dating. I went with Megan and Jason who I worked with at the stockroom and we always have fun when we all hang out together. I think we had a bit too much fun at the reception because there was a lot of waiting and we got bored so we amused ourselves with the camera that was on our table. Enough said. I headed back to BG that night and convinced Chris and Jared to come out to Downtown for drink.

On Sunday the road trip to Ann Arbor was under way! Jared, Chris, and I headed there to stay with my friend Jody (a grad student at U of M) to check out the U of M campus and the wonderful city of Ann Arbor. My friend Bridget also met up with us later on Sunday. I had a meeting on Monday with the recruitment director for the graduate program to which I'm applying to, School of Natural Resources and Environment. It went really well and I'm really excited about the prospects of going to U of M for my Master's degree. I decided to retake the GRE in December because if I get a better score I'll have a better chance of getting an assistantship or fellowship which I will definitely need in order to pay for school. I fell in love with the city! There is just so much to do and so much to see. The campus is gorgeous! I spent so much money there on shopping, food, and beer. I am going to have to put in some major overtime at work but it was totally worth it!

I came back to Piqua on Tuesday and I'm wishing I was still in Ann Arbor. I will actually be going back up there on the 23rd for a job interview with Environment Michigan working on their energy campaign. And I also wish that I wasn't sick but yet again I'm sick and it's annoying.

So I've been thinking more about grad school since after Christmas I will have to start the application process all over again. I know I'm applying to U of M and Ohio State. I'm still considering to applying to UC Berkeley as my "dream" school because there is a professor who is studying endocrinology of amphibians that I would love to work under. I'm still searching for possibly 2 more schools outside of Ohio to apply to.

Here are some pictures from my mini vacation:

Oh and here's an article from the BG News that my left-handed boyfriend is in!

Somebody Shit on the Coats...

To address the title, I bought Dane Cook's latest cd/dvd "Retaliation" this past weekend and it is hilarious, of course! He is amazing!!

So I had a really good weekend. I try to fill my weekends with lots of things to do so I don't have to be home or in Piqua for most of the time. On Friday I really didn't do a whole lot because I was so tired. Just ran and relaxed and went to bed early. On Saturday I woke up early to run and go to the bank and then headed to Urbana to hang out with Amy. It was great to just sit and talk with her and catch-up on each other's lives. We don't get to talk on the phone that often so I enjoy these kind of days. We had lunch and then just lazed around her place, made brownies, and watched TV. Then we went and looked at her classrooms, rented a movie, and got some beer. We watched "V for Vendetta" and drank Amber Bock. A great end to the day.

On Sunday I went down to Dayton and went to the Dayton Art Institute's Oktoberfest with Jenny. It was awesome. The best part was all the different International beer they had. I only had 3 beers but was slightly drunk by the time we left. Since I'm extremely picky, I settled for a homemade pizza that was delicious. There were 4 tents that had different arts and crafts. I saw so many things I wanted to buy but it was all very expensive. Though I did get a painting that I was able to bargain with the guy for. It was originally $88 but he have it to me for half. He was really cool and my sister and I talked to him for about 20 minutes about his artwork. He uses recycled materials which is really cool. Here's a pic of what I bought:

I totally love it!! All of his stuff was really cool and interesting!

I thought I'd add a picture of my cat Patches because she's so freaking adorable and I forgot I had taken this:

Well I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
